Buildings are often installed with two main types of elevators, freight and passenger elevators. Like the names suggest, freight elevators are meant for cargo while passenger elevators are meant for people. To differentiate the two kinds of elevators in a building, a sign is often posted outside freight elevators to identify them. Freight elevators are meant for cargo, but it does not mean that people cannot be lifted in them.
